ABOUT US
American Firehouse was established in 2009 with a simple goal: tell the stories behind the fire service that most people never hear.
What started as a single song, The Firefighter Song, grew into something much bigger. Paul Cummings, a longtime volunteer firefighter, saw firsthand that while the public sees the lights and the trucks, they rarely see the people behind them. The long nights. The missed time at home. The weight carried long after the call is over.
American Firehouse exists to bring that side of the story forward.
Through music, storytelling, and now The Heart of the Volunteer podcast, the mission is simple. Show what it really means to serve. Not just the emergencies, but the commitment, the sacrifice, and the human side of the job.
At a time when volunteer fire departments across the country are facing declining membership and increasing demand, this platform also serves a larger purpose. Awareness. Connection. Recruitment. Not through statistics alone, but by helping people understand why anyone would choose to do this in the first place.
Because the truth is, most don’t do it for recognition. They do it because something in them says to show up.
American Firehouse is for the firefighters who live it, the families who support it, and the communities who depend on it.
And for anyone willing to understand what happens behind the sirens.
